- LABS, PROJECTS, GROUPS
-
-
- The category LABS, PROJECTS, GROUPS has been designed to
- include as many research institutions, informal focus, groups and
- commercial organizations that could be found. Being such a
- popular new area, virtual reality has many new entrants to this
- category and it is difficult to remain completely up-to-date.
-
- Universities that form VR labs usually have a broad focus on the
- kind of VR research and directions that they pursue. Many
- university environments will tack VR research onto already funded
- programs and areas of interest that appear to relate to the topic
- of VR. Some labs, with major grants from commercial interests,
- will focus on the more specific applications of VR that are
- germane to their other primary areas of strength, such as a
- medical school, or a school of communications, etc. Other labs
- may serve as incubators.
-
- As commercial organizations begin to notice VR related potential,
- many form projects to study the field prior to making any major
- commitment to fund a lab or purchase equipment. Some may
- choose to publicize their interest in the field to create synergy
- and to invite system donations or discounts based on their
- organization's viability as a volume customer of VR products or
- strength as a market segment partner and / or developer.
-
- VR special interest groups that qualify as birds of a feather
- organizations are also listed here. Some groups are more broad in
- their focus, say human factors, etc. but they definitely have an
- investment in the proliferation and successful market acceptance
- of VR technology.
-
- If your organization is involved with a VR related lab, project, or
- is a group that should be listed please contact us soon so it can
- be listed.
